Quanzhou History Exhibition
The Quanzhou History Exhibition is located on the second floor of the museum, covering an area of 1,500 square meters. The exhibition follows the history of Quanzhou, starting from the ancient Shenhushan Forest Site in prehistory, and covers the traces of early settlers in the region. It also highlights the prosperity of the Maritime Silk Road, the flourishing of the largest port in the East, and the historical chapters written by Quanzhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).
As visitors enter the second-floor exhibition hall, the preface titled "By the Water's Edge" vividly portrays Quanzhou as a coastal city nestled between mountains and the sea. The first gallery features a model that demonstrates the changing geography and landforms of the Taiwan Strait, illustrating how prehistoric humans migrated from the mainland to the island, leaving traces of their presence. Fossils of Quaternary mammals, including ancient Elephas, woolly rhinoceros, and other prehistoric species, unearthed from the Shishi Sea area, are on display. There are also precious artifacts from various periods, including Han Dynasty (206 BC–AD 220) pottery, tomb bricks from the Jin Dynasty (1115–1234), and terracotta molds for casting coins from the Five Dynasties.
Folk Collection Exhibition
The Folk Collection Exhibition is located on the third floor and provides a space for collectors to display their collections. Collectors can apply to the museum to showcase their items, selecting the display time and types according to their preferences. This innovative approach to exhibiting collections at the museum has seen over 200 items displayed. The temporary exhibition hall on the fourth floor hosts various exhibits, including calligraphy, photography, ceramics, and other types of displays, with exhibitions held periodically.
